The short version
CozyBar is a fully client-side app, it doesn't send any of your data to the internet.
No sign-up process, no analytics, no telemetry, no “anonymous usage data”. CozyBar is just a taskbar, and it doesn't need to phone home to do its job. The only time it ever goes online is to check your license, once you've purchased it.
During your free trial
The app collects nothing. Really.
- No email address. The trial doesn't ask for one.
- No credit card.
- No analytics.
If you buy CozyBar
Payments are handled by our partner, Polar. We never see your card.
Polar (Polar Software, Inc.) is our online reseller, also known as the merchant of record. That means Polar is the seller you see at checkout and on your receipt. They'll take the payment, work out any sales tax or VAT on our behalf and email your receipt and license key. Card details go straight to Polar and its payment processor, Stripe. We'll never see those.
To process your order, Polar will need your email address, your name, your country of residence (for tax purposes) and your payment details. How it handles them is set out in Polar's privacy policy.
We'll be upfront about one thing: as the makers of CozyBar, we can see your name, email address, country and order in Polar's dashboard. We'll only ever use them to look after your purchase, for example resending a lost license key or sorting out a refund. We won't send you marketing emails, and we'll never sell or share your details.
What the app sends, and when
When you activate CozyBar, it sends your license key to Polar along with a label for your Mac, so we can tell your Macs apart if you use CozyBar on more than one. The label is just your Mac's model code (like “Mac14,2”) and a random code CozyBar makes up. It's never your Mac's name or serial number.
After that, about once a week when you're online, CozyBar checks with Polar that your license is still valid. Nothing about your windows, apps or anything else you do is ever sent. If you're offline, CozyBar keeps working just the same, for as long as you like.
Our website
This site, the CozyBar download and the page you land on after purchasing are hosted by Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes your IP address and basic browser details to deliver them and to protect against abuse, as set out in Cloudflare's privacy policy.
We only see overall numbers, like how many people visited or downloaded CozyBar, never who you are or what you clicked. The site uses no cookies or analytics scripts, and its fonts are served from the site itself, so nothing is sent to Google either.
What happens on your Mac
To do its job, CozyBar has to know about your open windows. That means their titles, their previews and which apps you use. Your Start menu pins, your settings and the Task Manager's CPU, memory, disk and network graphs are on that list too.
All of it is worked out on your Mac and kept on your Mac. None of it is sent to us or to anyone else.
About those permissions
When you first open CozyBar, macOS will ask you to give it a couple of permissions. That's how it can see your windows and put them in the bar. It uses them for exactly that and nothing else.
